The Get Wed Daimler DS420 Landaulette at a country estate

Our story

Built with pride. Driven with purpose.

Get Wed is a small, personal business — just the two of us, doing something we love, together.

Where Get Wed began

We'll be honest with you. Get Wed wasn't born from a grand business plan. It grew from something far more personal — a desire to feel proud, to contribute, and to do something meaningful together.

Dennis, from Harrow in north-west London, and Tracey, from Mitcham in south London, both retired through ill health at 52. It wasn't the retirement either of us had imagined. But rather than accept that chapter as closed, we looked for something we could build ourselves — something that wasn't too demanding, but that we could pour real care and craftsmanship into.

For Dennis, the answer was always going to involve a classic car. A former AA Patrolman with a lifelong passion for mechanics and a private collection of classic vehicles, he found the 1989 Daimler DS420 Landaulette and knew immediately it was something special. A car worthy of the most important day of a couple's life.

Tracey — a retired Royal Mail postwoman who spent years serving her community — brings the warmth, attentiveness, and quiet dedication that makes every couple feel genuinely looked after on their wedding day.

Together, we take on a strictly limited number of weddings each year. Not because we have to — but because we want every booking to receive the full attention it deserves. This is never a production line. It is always personal.

The Daimler DS420 Landaulette

1989 · Ivory & Black · 4.2 litre inline-six · Continuous chauffeur service since new

There are very few motorcars that can claim an unbroken lineage of formal service stretching back over a century. The Daimler DS420 is one of them — and ours has been at the heart of wedding celebrations for the last 25 years.

A lineage fit for royalty

The Daimler name has been synonymous with British ceremonial transport since the late Victorian era. Queen Victoria herself was among the first British monarchs to travel by motor car — a Daimler. That royal association endured for generations, and by the mid-twentieth century, Daimler had become the definitive choice for state occasions, civic dignitaries, and the most formal of private commissions.

02

The last of the great formal carriages

The DS420 was introduced in 1968 as the spiritual successor to the stately DR450 limousine. Designed by Vanden Plas — the coachbuilder with a heritage stretching back to Edwardian horse-drawn carriages — it was built on a stretched Jaguar platform and hand-finished to a standard that no volume manufacturer could replicate. At over five and a half metres in length, it was the longest production car ever built in Britain. Production continued until 1992, making it one of the longest-running single models in British automotive history — a testament to a design so correct it simply did not need to change.

03

The XK engine — a legend under the bonnet

Beneath the long, formal bonnet sits the legendary Jaguar XK 4.2 litre inline-six — an engine whose reputation for refinement and longevity is without equal in British motoring history. First developed in the late 1940s by William Heynes and Walter Hassan, the XK unit powered everything from Le Mans-winning racing cars to the iconic E-Type. In the DS420, paired with a smooth automatic gearbox, it delivers exactly what a formal occasion demands: effortless, near-silent progress. No drama. No vibration. Simply a composed, unhurried arrival.

04

The Landaulette — open to the sky

Our DS420 is the rare Landaulette variant — a configuration with a folding rear hood section that allows the roof above the passenger compartment to be opened on fine days. The tradition of the landaulette dates to nineteenth-century horse-drawn carriages, where it allowed passengers to be seen — and to see — during ceremonial processions. On a summer wedding day, it transforms the arrival into something genuinely theatrical: the couple visible to their guests, the open sky above them, the occasion announced rather than merely delivered.

05

A working life of distinction

Our car has been in continuous chauffeur service since it left the factory in 1989. For the last 25 years it has been dedicated exclusively to wedding hire — carrying couples and wedding parties to churches, country houses, and registry offices across the Home Counties. It has never been a show car or a restoration project. It is a working motorcar with a genuine history of service, maintained with the mechanical rigour you would expect from a former AA Patrolman who has spent a lifetime keeping classic cars on the road.

"A car is only as good as the care it receives. This one has been cared for every mile of its life."

Craftsmanship

Dennis has spent a lifetime understanding classic cars from the inside out. The Daimler is maintained to the highest standard — not just presented, but genuinely cared for.
