FAQ — Wedding Car Hire Questions Answered | Get Wed

Question 1

How far in advance should I book?

Accepted Answer

We strongly recommend booking as early as possible — ideally twelve to eighteen months before your wedding date. The DS420 Landaulette is a single vehicle operated exclusively by Dennis and Tracey, which means only one wedding can be accepted per day. Popular dates in May, June, and September fill quickly, sometimes more than a year ahead. If your date is within six months, it is still worth enquiring — cancellations do occasionally arise.

Question 2

What is a Daimler DS420 Landaulette?

Accepted Answer

The Daimler DS420 is the last of the great British state limousines, hand-built at the Vanden Plas coachworks in London and later at the Jaguar plant in Coventry between 1968 and 1992. It was used by the Royal Family, heads of state, and the British government for official occasions. The Landaulette variant features a folding rear hood that can be lowered to create an open-air carriage — a feature unique among wedding cars. Ours is a 1989 example presented in black over ivory, carrying the cherished registration G37 WED.

Question 3

How many passengers can the DS420 carry?

Accepted Answer

The DS420 Landaulette seats six passengers in the rear cabin, plus Dennis as principal chauffeur and Tracey as private attendant. In practice, most couples use the rear for the wedding party, with additional guests travelling separately. The cabin is exceptionally spacious — full wedding attire causes no difficulty whatsoever.

Question 4

What is included in the price?

Accepted Answer

Every Get Wed booking includes: Dennis as uniformed principal chauffeur; Tracey as dedicated private attendant; a bottle of Moët & Chandon champagne with crystal flutes; your requested music playlist; ivory ribbon dressing; photography opportunities en route; full route planning; a pre-celebration consultation; and a premium souvenir brochure. There are no hidden extras — everything listed is included in the quoted price. Optional enhancements — including The Vintage Polaroid Station, The Royal Toast prestige champagne upgrade, The Secret Interlude scenic detour, our Signature Scent & Keepsake experience, in-car filming, colour-coordinated ribbon dressing, bespoke floral arrangements, and an evening take-home service — are available to personalise your experience further and are priced on enquiry.

Question 5

What does the private attendant do?

Accepted Answer

Tracey's role as private attendant is to look after the couple from the moment they step into the car. This includes managing wedding attire and train, ensuring everyone is comfortable and composed, assisting with the champagne, and being a calm, reassuring presence throughout the journey. Tracey has an instinctive understanding of how to make couples feel at ease — it is one of the things couples most frequently mention in their feedback.

Question 6

Can the roof be lowered for our arrival?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the Landaulette coachwork is specifically designed for this. The rear hood folds down to create a fully open-air carriage, allowing the couple to be seen and photographed from the moment the car arrives. This is one of the most distinctive features of the DS420 Landaulette and produces extraordinary photographs. The decision to lower the roof is made on the day in consultation with you, taking weather and personal preference into account.

Question 7

What happens if the weather is poor?

Accepted Answer

The DS420 Landaulette is a fully enclosed limousine when the hood is raised, providing complete protection from the elements. If rain or wind makes an open-air arrival impractical, the roof remains up and the car is no less impressive. The black over ivory coachwork, ivory ribbon dressing, and cherished G37 WED plate make a striking arrival in any weather. We discuss contingency preferences during your pre-celebration consultation.

Question 8

How much does it cost?

Accepted Answer

Get Wed wedding chauffeur hire starts from £1,100. Our premium package includes up to 70 total driven miles from our base in Beaconsfield — that is 35 miles each way. There are no fuel surcharges or additional charges for the items listed as included as standard. To ensure our historic Daimler is meticulously maintained and our time is covered, additional miles beyond the 70-mile allowance are seamlessly calculated at £2.50 per mile. A precise, all-inclusive quotation is provided when you enquire. An evening take-home option is also available for couples who wish to use the car later in the day.

Question 9

What is your cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

We understand that circumstances can change. Cancellations made more than twelve months before the wedding date receive a full refund of any deposit paid. Cancellations between six and twelve months before the date receive a fifty percent refund. Cancellations within six months of the date are non-refundable, as the date will almost certainly have been declined to other enquiries. Full terms are set out in our Terms & Conditions.

Question 10

Which areas do you serve?

Accepted Answer

Get Wed operates across London and the Home Counties, including Surrey, Kent, Hertfordshire, Essex, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire, Middlesex, East Sussex, West Sussex, and Wiltshire. We are based in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire and can travel to venues throughout this region. If your venue falls outside these counties, please enquire — we consider requests beyond our standard area on a case-by-case basis and a supplementary travel fee may apply.

Question 11

Can we choose our own music?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Your music playlist is part of the included service. You can provide a playlist of any length via Spotify, Apple Music, or a simple list of tracks — we will have it ready and playing when you step into the car. Many couples choose something meaningful for the journey to the ceremony and something celebratory for the journey afterwards. There are no restrictions on genre or style.

Question 12

Are photographs and video permitted?

Accepted Answer

Yes — photography and video are actively encouraged. The DS420 Landaulette is an exceptionally photogenic vehicle and we plan the route and timing to allow for photography opportunities. Your photographer is welcome to meet us at agreed locations. We ask only that any images shared publicly credit Get Wed where possible. If you would prefer not to have your wedding featured in our own promotional material, simply let us know and we will respect that entirely.

Question 13

Can the car be decorated with flowers or personalised ribbons?

Accepted Answer

Ivory ribbon dressing is included as standard and is fitted to complement the car's coachwork. As an optional enhancement, we also offer a bespoke ribbon and bow service — ribbon and bows colour-coordinated to match your wedding palette, tied to the door handles and bonnet in a style of your choosing. Bespoke floral arrangements coordinated with your chosen flowers and wedding theme are available as a further optional enhancement — please mention this when you enquire and we will discuss the options with your florist. We do not permit adhesive decorations, confetti cannons, or anything that could damage the coachwork or interior.

Question 14

What does the pre-celebration consultation involve?

Accepted Answer

Before your wedding day, Dennis and Tracey will meet with you — in person or by telephone — to go through every detail of the day. This includes the collection address and time, the route to the ceremony, any photography stops, the reception venue, music preferences, champagne preferences, and any specific requests or concerns. The consultation ensures that on the day itself everything runs without a moment's uncertainty.

Question 15

How do I make a booking?

Accepted Answer

The first step is to submit an enquiry through our contact page, giving your wedding date, collection address, and destination. Dennis will respond personally, usually within one working day, to confirm availability and provide a quotation. If you are happy to proceed, a deposit secures the date and the booking is confirmed in writing. We recommend enquiring as early as possible — availability on popular dates is strictly limited.

Question 16

What is The Royal Toast upgrade?

Accepted Answer

The Royal Toast is our prestige champagne enhancement. Rather than the Moët & Chandon included as standard, The Royal Toast upgrades your in-car celebration to a chilled bottle of prestige cuvée — Dom Pérignon or Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé — served at the perfect temperature the moment the ceremony concludes. Alongside it, hand-selected dark chocolate and sea salt artisan truffles, chosen to complement the wine. The crystal flutes, the ice bucket, the unhurried moment — everything is prepared and waiting. A considered, indulgent beginning to the rest of your lives together. The Royal Toast is available as an optional enhancement and is priced on enquiry.

Question 17

What is the Signature Scent & Keepsake enhancement?

Accepted Answer

Fragrance holds the unique power to lock in memories forever. Our Signature Scent & Keepsake enhancement subtly perfumes the grand cabin with a signature scent from an iconic fragrance house, chosen by you from a curated selection presented at your pre-celebration consultation. At the conclusion of your hire, you receive two keepsakes presented together in a Get Wed Keepsake Box — your chosen candle to burn on future anniversaries, and a travel-size version of the same scent to carry with you wherever the next chapter takes you. A beautifully finished, ribbon-tied reminder that instantly transports you back to your wedding day. The enhancement is available as an optional addition and is priced on enquiry.

Question 18

What is The Vintage Polaroid Station?

Accepted Answer

While your professional photographer captures the grand arrivals outside, Tracey and Dennis work together to photograph the candid, unhurried moments inside the cabin — the nervous laughter, the quiet exhale, the first champagne pour. Tracey captures the moments when the car is in motion; Dennis when stationary. Throughout the journey, every fleeting moment is captured digitally and the twenty finest are selected and printed as instant keepsakes. At the end of your journey, your prints are presented in a Get Wed Keepsake Folio — a beautifully bound, branded keepsake to treasure alongside your wedding album. The enhancement is available as an optional addition and is priced on enquiry.

Question 19

What is The Secret Interlude?

Accepted Answer

The Secret Interlude is a structured, 20-minute scenic detour built into your itinerary immediately following your ceremony. With the Landaulette roof fully lowered and a fresh glass of champagne in hand, the world slips quietly past — a protected, tranquil pocket of time for just the two of you to sit back, breathe, and let the moment settle before the reception begins. The route is planned in advance during your pre-celebration consultation, and your venue is informed so your guests have time to gather and be ready to announce the arrival of the newlyweds. The Secret Interlude is available as an optional enhancement and is priced on enquiry.

Question 20

Do you operate a Challenge 25 policy for alcohol?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All alcohol provided as part of your Get Wed experience is sourced exclusively through a licensed third-party trade supplier. Get Wed does not hold its own alcohol licence; instead, all alcohol is procured from a licensed premises and supplied to you as part of your service package. Because Dennis physically pours the champagne and Tracey holds the glasses during service, Get Wed also operates a strict Challenge 25 policy in line with the Retail of Alcohol Standards Group (RASG) guidelines. Challenge 25 is a voluntary industry initiative that helps businesses meet their mandatory obligations under the Licensing Act 2003 to prevent the service of alcohol to persons under 18. If any member of your party appears to be under 25, we will politely ask for valid photographic ID — a passport, driving licence, or PASS-accredited card — before serving alcohol. If satisfactory ID cannot be produced, we are legally and ethically obliged to decline service of alcohol to that individual. This policy applies to all passengers, including the couple, and is applied without exception. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
